Akanejima Furusato Museum

At the Akanejima Furusato Museum in Noshima Elementary and Junior High School, valuable materials left on the island from previous eras are stored. There was also a booklet with lots of tips on the island, such as why Noshima is called "Akanejima".

Road to Lighthouse

There were times where the road to the lighthouse was a little hard to follow because of the dense foliage. However, seeing the lighthouse and thinking of it gently illuminating the boats and people around Noshima filled us with a sense of power.

Noshima Beach(Tsukumihama)

The beach at Noshima Beach (Tsukumihama) was very unusual, made with many pebbles piled up instead of sand. You can enjoy a grainy feeling that is different from a sandy beach, and the waves lapping between the stones and on the top are transparent and very beautiful to see.

Alley

As you step inland from the seaside streets, you will find some narrow alleys. Old-fashioned houses are crowded together, and this is an irresistible spot for alley lovers. There are tobacco signboards, cigarette vending machines, wells, etc..You can imagine that such alleys were vital to the resident’s lives.

Island flowers

Flowers bloom everywhere on the island. Some are natural flowers, some are planted in flowerbeds, but all add color to the island landscape. This flower is unknown, but the pale blue creates a wonderful contrast with deep green surroundings and dark brown houses.

Abandoned house

This abandoned house was found on the way to the lighthouse. As you head toward the mountains, you can see various abandoned houses (or buildings that look like abandoned houses). Though the numbers are few, abandoned house hunters would surely love the lonely feeling of the houses being swallowed up in green.

Tetrapods

Beyond the Tetrapods that protect Noshima's shore, there is a magnificent sea. The contrast between the lush Noshima trees on the right and the islands that can be seen faintly in the distance gives a sight like an illustration from an old tale such as Momotaro.

Shrine

There is a shrine standing overlooking the harbor, and two koma-inu (dog stuates) are protecting it. In the picture, you can see a cat laying on the base of the shrine and staring at the harbor. They may be watching the port together with shrine and guardian dogs.

Monument

The sea stretches behind the monument, and birds fly over the sea. The transparency of the sea is high, and you can see the fish swimming elegantly if you look down into it. Therefore, it is a great fishing spot, and there were many anglers on the shore.

View from embankment

The view from the embankment opposite the beach, the open view of the myriad tetrapods and blue waters is healing to one’s soul. You can cool off in the sea breeze in the summer, but be careful of the sun’s rays.

Ferry

Noshima Ferry, the only public transport to go to Noshima has many seats, and it is a spacious ship. The view from the window is good, and you can enjoy watching the blue sea shining in the sunlight.

Hidden steel frame

Noshima, which is rich in nature, has a lot of vegetation. If you look at this picture closely, you can see something like a steel frame buried in the leaves. You can feel the flow of time and the strength of nature, and it is an exciting landscape.

Laughter Kannon

Walking from the dock to Tsukumihama Beach, you can see the "Laughter Kannon". This Kannon-sama was erected on August 8, 1996 (8th month, 8th day of Heisei 8; 8 is pronounced ‘ha’ in Japanese) with the laughter of "ha ha ha". Kannon's smile makes the viewer cheerful.

Tsukumihama Beach

Tsukumihama Beach is a coast lined with pebbles and offers magnificent views. There is a campground nearby, so you can find various ways to enjoy beautiful nature.

Rest Area

Immediately after getting off the ferry, there is a relaxing space where you can enjoy the view of the harbor with the boat and the sea. If you are lucky, some of the cats living on the island may welcome you lovingly.

Beyond the long narrow alley

Beyond the long narrow alley
A little off the coast, there are alleys surrounded by quaint houses. If you feel the light and turn around, you will be able to enjoy the seascape that extends beyond narrow alleys.

Wharf

Ships lined up at the dock are hit by the calm waves of Setouchi and give off the sound of the tranquility of Noshima. The wide sea and quiet harbor are places where you can feel the rural pace of life. If you think about the people who came here and those who come out of here, you may find out the good qualities of Noshima.

Beautiful Coastline

The beach is so beautiful that you can mistake it for a tropical resort. This is Noshima's beach. There are facilities for camping and barbecues as well as showers and changing rooms. At night, the perfect starry sky and the sound of the waves will heal your daily fatigue.

Tiled roofs and the Seto Inland Sea

Tiled roofs and the Seto Inland Sea
If you go to a high place, you can see the tiled roofs and the Seto Inland Sea beyond them. Walk up to the temple on the mountainside to take in this spectacular view.

Crystal clear sea

The sea of Noshima is beautiful and clear enough to see underwater creatures. This is a photo near the estuary, and many shellfish can be found among the stones.

Landscape with Cats

Cats tired of the summer heat are resting in and around the island. They are so integrated into people's lives that it's almost impossible to notice them. Now, how many cats are in this picture?

Nostalgic Scenery

When you enter the narrow alleys lined with private houses, you can find a small canal passing through its center. It is a scene that makes you feel nostalgic for your childhood and the days of playing with little red crabs on the way home from school.
